Barbara Meszaros and Kristine Smith with our restored charter

In 2011, chapter members Betty Henken, Barbara Meszaros, and Kristine Smith began the process of restoring the Colonel Josiah Smith Chapter's charter. Created in 1920, the framed document deteriorated over the years due to exposure to light and moisture. The newly restored charter is on display at the Local History room of the Patchogue-Medford Library.

GOOD CITIZENS AWARD

Former Regent Sue Griffing (leftmost) represented our chapter in Washington DC  in 1999

The Good Citizens Award is given yearly to high school seniors who demonstrate qualities of good citizenship: leadership, service, dependability, and patriotism. Local winners receive certificates and monetary awards; national winners receive scholarships. In 1999,  the chapter had the pleasure of sponsoring Alexander Mittendorf, winner of the New York State DAR Good Citizen Award and the National Good Citizen Award.
